Profile
Simon is a valuable member of the New Medicine Group team. In addition to a string of qualifications, and over twelve years of education and experience in exercise and rehabilitative therapy, Simon is one of the very first people in Europe to have been certified as a Muscle Activation Specialist, and to achieve his mastery in the Resistance Training Specialist® program. Simon is currently studying towards his mastery in Muscle Activation Techniques (MAT)™ of which there are currently less than thirty masters world wide. These two new cutting edge disciplines are big news in the States, particularly in the sports rehabilitation, and slowly through Simon are becoming known here in the UK.
Muscle Activation Techniques™ (MAT) is a very important development in treating muscular dysfunction and regarded by many as a breakthrough. The traditional approach has been to try to release tight muscles (including those in spasm) with massage and stretching. However, Greg Roskopf, the founder of MAT, realised that the nervous system tightens muscles for a good reason - as a protective response to maintain joint stability. This realisation turned conventional practice upside down. Instead of treating the tight muscles, MAT is able to get to the root of pain or injury by focusing on the weak muscles that the tight muscles are compensating for. By activating these weak muscles, joint stability is improved, thus helping to restore normal body flexibility, balance and posture, and thereby decreasing pain and reducing the risk of injury.Simon also uses the knowledge and understanding of physics and bio-mechanics as applied to your body that the Resistance Training Specialist ® program provides. Simon evaluates your different muscle strengths, weaknesses, and compensations, and thus tailors precisely the right exercises you need for the efficient and safe rehabilitation.
Simon is dedicated to improving the health and well-being of all those he can reach – which is why he founded Life Activation, which seeks to explain the principles of good health and to provide advice even for those he cannot treat. "I cannot recommend Simon highly enough. I spent three years suffering with sciatica in my right leg and tried numerous physio’s and therapists to try and ease the problem. After one trip to Simon it was much more comfortable and after a course of treatment the sciatica is completely gone. I have now been pain-free for two years and have some exercises to do that provide immediate relief if I start to feel any discomfort."
