Psoriasis - an inflammation of the skin caused by the overproduction of outer skin cells. As a result, itchy, scaly red patches appear, often on the elbows, hands, feet, and scalp.
Mr Stefan Chmelik on Psoriasis
Although anyone with experience of treating psoriasis would not say that psoriasis is easy to cure, it is definitely the case that Chinese Medicine is the treatment of choice for this condition. There are actually several distinct types of psoriasis, many of them not recognised by conventional dermatology. Herbs are as the main treatment according to the specific type of psoriasis involved, and natural creams speed up the healing process. Sometimes dietary therapy and detoxification are helpful, and acupuncture is useful where stress is a factor.
I test the liver function of people with psoriasis before prescribing herbs, so we know how well the liver is coping with detoxification
Dr Brian Kaplan on Psoriasis:
Although I have found most cases of psoriasis a difficult challenge to treat, there are some cases that have responded well to an holistic approach. These are cases that present for treatment very soon after the psoriasis begins.
Homeopathy and Dietary Supplements: If the psoriasis began after some sort of traumatic event (physical or psychological) then there chances of successful treatment are increased in my opinion. Treatment is with classical homeopathy, dietary supplementation and Dead Sea salt (or even better visits to the Dead Sea)
If your psoriasis does not respond to homeopathy and supplements I will discuss other options of treatment, in particular the use of Chinese Herbs by a colleague in the New Medicine Group. However, psoriasis has shown itself to be difficult to treat by any means. However this does not mean that it is not possible to get a good result with holistic medicine. It is definitely worth trying but to express total confidence in getting a good result would be misleading.
