Miscarriage - post & recurrent

Definition:

Miscarriage - the spontaneous and involuntary loss of a pregnancy before 20 weeks, estimated to occur in 15 to 20 percent of all pregnancies. Most miscarriages occur in the first 12 weeks of pregnancy, and many occur before a woman even knows she's pregnant.

Recurrent miscarriage is the loss of three or more pregnancies.

Mr Stefan Chmelik on Miscarriage, post and recurrent

I know from the experience of many women I have talked to that few things are as heartbreaking as losing a baby. For this to happen more than once can be almost unbearable. Chinese Medicine has been treating this problem for thousands of years, and can be helpful even when no conventional diagnosis has been established.

As well as checking for nutritional status, I usually use acupuncture and moxibustion to help prevent a miscarriage, and I will advise on the level of rest required to minimize the risk of a recurrence.

This is a problem where Chinese Medicine has a huge amount to potentially offer, particularly considering there is effectively no conventional treatment.

Brian Kaplan

Dr Brian Kaplan on Miscarriage:

Although miscarriage is relatively common, it is still very distressing for most women.

Orthodox medicine:

Of course you need orthodox medicine for the initial event and there is no alternative to following sound advice from your gynaecologist or GP. Sometimes there is a medical cause of recurrent miscarriages and this is why you do need to have any tests suggested by your doctors.

However a complementary approach also can have a role to play in this condition especially when no clear cause of recurrent miscarriages has been found but also to help you get over the physical and psychological shock of the miscarriage.

Homeopathy:

There are remedies such as Arnica and Bellis perennis to help you get over the shock of the event. For recurrent miscarriages (with no known medical cause), I will look for a constitutional remedy to suit you as a whole person to strengthen your whole system and my view is that it is well worth trying homeopathy for this condition.

Autogenic Therapy:

For women who have stressful lives and find themselves suffering from recurrent miscarriages, this stress-releasing and stress-proofing technique can not only improve the quality of their lives but may make them more likely to avoid repeated miscarriages.
