Menstrual Problems and PMS

Mr Stefan Chmelik on Menstrual problems - irregular periods/bleeding, period pain

Because a lot of women experience problems associated with their periods, it does not mean that is normal or that it has to be like that.

It is always wise to bring the menstrual cycle towards an ideal state, even if you have come to learn to live with the cycle you currently have. As well as relating to current or future fertility, a cycle with irregular or difficult bleeding can lead to real health issues, including hormonal problems, fibroids and endometriosis, acne, breast problems and mood changes, as well as future problems related to the menopause.

The conventional approach is to use chemical hormones to create an artificial cycle. This can be effective as long as the hormones continue to be taken, but long-term use significantly increases the risk of certain diseases. The use of hormones masks the underlying imbalance, and prevents your body from addressing the problem. This means that when the hormones are stopped, the problem will usually return, sometimes in a different form, and often worse than previously.

Enabling your body to create a regular cycle, with proper blood flow and no pain can be achieved using natural, holistic and Chinese Medicine methods. Acupuncture has a strong effect on re-establishing proper body cycles, herbal medicine and diet are able to supplement the requirements of the body to create the natural hormones needed for balance and health to occur.

Dr Brian Kaplan on Menstrual Problems, Irregular Periods, Irregular Bleeding, Period Pain, PMS, Breast Pain and Water Retention

Background: Painful or heavy periods, an abnormally low sex drive and PMS can make at least a week a month miserable for many women. Many women are not keen on taking hormonal treatment (like the pill) for the sole purpose of normalising their menstruation and therefore seek natural alternatives. In my experience the majority of these cases can be helped with a combination of nutritional advice and homeopathy.

Homeopathy: All these conditions are well worth treating with constitutional homeopathy and I’ve seen so many excellent results over the years that I really believe that many women are suffering unnecessarily from these annoying hormone-related problems.

Nutrition: Changing to a healthy diet and taking some supplements can have a major effects on this condition in my opinion and nutritional advice is always a part of my approach to the conditions listed here.

Autogenic Therapy: Stress can cause and exacerbate hormonal conditions and some women improve dramatically when they learn to release stress and ‘stress-proof’ themselves. A course of Autogenic Therapy is particularly useful in this regard.

Overall: These conditions respond very well to an holistic approach in my experience and the need for treatment with hormones can often be avoided.
