Inflammatory bowel disease, Chron's disease, Colitis
Definition:
Inflammatory Bowel Disease is a general term that refers to inflammation of the colon and rectum found in ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease.
Crohn's disease - inflammation of the digestive organ, such as the colon or small intestine. In Crohn's Disease, scar tissues can develop to cause intestinal blockage and infection can cause abscesses, fistulas, fissures, and skin tags.
Colitis - is a digestive disease characterized by inflammation of the colon.

These two conditions have some similarities but are quite different clinically. As well as the specific differences, such as the part of the intestines affected, the actual treatment of these two conditions is distinct.
In the Chinese Medicine, we work out how much Heat or Dampness is present from the overall symptoms and treat accordingly. It is also important to recognise when treating here that the Mind and Body are one whole, and the emotional as well as the physical person must be addressed for meaningful results to take place.
The holistic and Chinese Medicine treatment of Chron's Disease and Colitis may involve one or several techniques, including acupuncture, dietary therapy, nutritional supplements, herbal medicine, bodywork and relaxation, meditation and breathing exercises.

Orthodox Medicine:
Diagnosis is absolutely essential and orthodox medication is often necessary until symptoms are completely controlled by any other approach. Then, and only with your GP or consultant’s cooperation, it becomes an option to come off medications slowly and with careful monitoring.
Autogenic Therapy:
This is the mainstay of my treatment of all cases of IBD (Inflammatory Bowel Disease) The production of deep states of relaxation in the whole body is the most reliable way to treat these troubling conditions from an holistic point of view and results with this technique have been most gratifying.
Homeopathy:
An accurately prescribed homeopathic remedy is also a very important part of my holistic approach to this problem and I manage most cases with a combination of Autogenics, Homeopathy and Nutritional Medicine.
Nutrition:
A therapeutic diet is most useful in these conditions and in complex cases I will consult my colleague in the New Medicine Group, Dr. Damien Downing, about what the ideal nutritional advice for a particular case.
Overall:
These are potentially serious, chronic conditions. They require the best of both orthodox and conventional medicine and I try to ensure that this is exactly what the people who consult me with these conditions, get.
