Indigestion & reflux

Definition:

Indigestion or reflux can be described as pain, or discomfort, in the upper abdomen. It is also known as dyspepsia. Indigestion is caused by stomach acid coming into contact with the sensitive, protective lining (mucosa) of the digestive system. The stomach acid breaks down the mucosa, causing irritation and inflammation, which brings on the symptoms of indigestion. In most cases, indigestion is related to eating, and may be accompanied by other symptoms, such as fullness in the stomach, or belching. Sometimes, indigestion can be caused by other factors, such as an infection, or taking certain medications.

Mr Stefan Chmelik on Indigestion, reflux

This is one of the most common health problems, and one for which millions of people are taking daily medication. This is a pity, as not only is this very treatable naturally, but the drugs used actually lead to an increase in acid production in the long term.

It is in fact incredibly rare to find someone who genuinely produces too much stomach acid. Most commonly, an acidic gas bubble forms which floats up the digestive tract, causing burning and even inflammation or ulcers. Some people also test positive for the Helio pylori bacteria, but there are natural and effective alternatives to antibiotics that eradicate this.

Acupuncture, herbal medicine, nutritional supplements and dietary therapy are all effective and useful here, and I teach stress management techniques where this is a factor in the problem.
