Authentic Tui Na therapy on Harley Street for the first time

posted on 18th December 2011 by Bevis Nathan

I have just returned from an extended post graduate study trip at a hospital in Hangzhou, China and I am delighted to be joining New Medicine Group this autumn.

In China, a Tui na doctor in hospitals will be the first port of call for many painful conditions ranging from chronic tension or sprains to disc prolapse and spondylosis. A Tui na doctor has undergone extensive training in not only western medicine and Chinese medical theory, but also has strengthened their body and mind with traditional exercises in order to apply the required techniques skilfully.

Due to this demanding training which traditionally includes ‘hard’ qi gong/martial arts and the study of Eastern philosophical ideas on tension and relaxation, tui na therapy is somewhat underrepresented in the UK. It is therefore a privilege for me to bring this effective and unique form of bodywork to Harley Street where its benefits may be demonstrated.

Because a tui na practitioner has an understanding of the body that draws on both Western and Eastern wisdom, receiving a tui na treatment is often a unique experience characterised by robust soft tissue work, precise and focused techniques and a lasting effect.

Testimonials

Dr Downing patient, Parkinson's Disease

"In September I was diagnosed with early Parkinson’s disease. As a fit 60-something this came as quite a blow. Dr Downing quickly started me on both oral and injected nutrient therapy. So far I have only had 6 injections, but already I’ve felt dramatic improvements. The numbness and the pins and needles have almost gone; my walking is better and I have more energy and strength; I can now do things again that I had lost, like holding a fork and brushing my hair; I’m sleeping better, and I’ve even got back my sense of smell which had been gone for several years!"
